Just wanted to comment on this work.I find it hard to believe that you dont do this all the time and that you dont have formal training. Graphic Novels from a Christian publisher may be your answer. You may want to explore further Klimt,Gustov use of pattern surrounding central figures in his paintings. Also,
your background while greatly detailed, may need to be in a more subtle hue as this would draw more attention to Christ. It was fun to find the subcontext in your work (rainbow at the staff). I would
really pursue your gift.

Thanks for your comments on Tempt the Messiah: a comic about... You are right about the backgrounds being too dark (on certain monitors). On my monitor they are not so dark. But I have seen them on other monitors, and they are too dark. That's the thing about web art, it varies according to monitor and monitor settings. Try turning up the brightness of your monitor to see it and the backgrounds will not be so dark (I know, who wants to do that?)

You are an exceptional artist. I am very impressed. Your pencil work is remarkable, and I look forward to more of your comic, and support your effort and work.

BTW, I'm one of the comic creators at eyeskreamcomics.com

Hey G,
Your artwork is exceptional. It's the kind of stuff I expected from you. Do you believe that the tempter came to Jesus in a female form? If so, why? Not that it would necessarily matter a whole bunch. Even though we see alot of female angels in art, I believe that all angels that I've read about in the scripture are portrayed as male.
eh,
RYoung

Responding to wwjblog, it is something different...not just photos I "mess" with. Click on the drawing of Christ. You see that it was drawn with pencil. I scan the drawings into my computer and paint them. The backgrounds have a photo foundation that I build upon. I edit out trees and signs of civilization, then add stones, more ground, mountains, horizons, (or whatever), and paint the sky. I apply filters to allow the texture of the background to match the line work of the characters. This approach allows me to have highly textured backgrounds without spending hours and hours on them (but I do spend hours and hours on the characters).

No, RYoung,I do not believe that the Tempter came to Jesus in female form. I suppose he could. However, I just present the Devil in a more feminine form because my wife was the model. (Is the Devil in my comic a girl or a boy? Makes you say, hhmmmmm???).

And you seem to be right about the scriptures portraying angels as male. But I think this goes deeper than mere gender expression. The appearance of the form may depend on the purpose of the angel. In the Bible, angels are typically presented in the male form perhaps to communicate authority.

Thanks Gustav. I have more. I have three more chapters to add to the work.

This is how I worship and praise God - because I am so very thankful for what He has done for me, for us. Some people sing to praise and worship Him....I draw (sing too, but you wouldn't want to listen to me...HA,HA).

Hi G. beautiful art work and the way you use scripture draws ones interest right into the story. I too believe it is the truth and you have a wonderful gift to glorify God with.

Hi Horseman
Just seen your latest picture on 'saythatiam.blogspot
.com' Superb! Well done. I've added links to both blogs on the 'Bible illustration blog' blogroll.
The slightly out of focus characters to either side of Jesus really focuses the attention on the Lord.

I noticed that the light spots in the eyes are on the right. Am I correct in saying that you are right handed?
Most of the light spots in my pictures are on the left.
Love the sidelocks! Have you started growing yours yet?

Horseman said...

Indeed, I am right handed. No side locks grown yet, Graham (bible artist). Since you last mentioned this, I have seen those clip on side locks available for purchase on the internet - maybe I will just buy me some of those. And thanks for adding me to your great site.

For those that do not know, Graham is a professional artist that lives across the Atlantic (in England). He does a great job illustrating the Bible and doing research on historical details of Biblical times.

Great job!! I'm quite impressed and inspired! I browsed in the internet to find bible drawings for my Joseph interactive 3D project and then I found your blog and Jesus illustrations. Woowww....
I really like how you illustrate Jesus. So calm, yet deep.
